Fresh Picks
The Goods. Schoolhouse Electric Covers the Home. The Portland, Oregon company known for iconic American-made period lighting has added around 1,000 products-- Egg Press bedding, walnut furniture by Reed La Plant, elegant lead-free stoneware from Ohio (the teapot shown $58), and more-- to its site. Most items are by small, craft-based "micro-manufactures," says Schoolhouse owner and founder, Brian Faherty. "Our point of view is domestic utility that's also beautiful and beautifully made. We're trying to work with vendors who use materials that last longer." Among the pretty, useful, durable things are Portland designer Adam Arnold's tight fitting slipcovers (shown in fuchsia wool, $550) and a shockingly good-looking extension cord.
