You’ve closed the deal on your 1920s Portland home, but how do you add just the right feel to your bungalow? Brian Faherty’s Schoolhouse Electric Co fabricates “vintage original” hand-blown glass shades and solid brass fixtures in styles that evoke the bygone decades between 1900 and 19060. And each light seems to have a story behind it. The hanging Wakefield reflector shade? Faherty says it’s inspired by the 1951 sci-fi film The Day the Earth Stood Still. What’s more, many fixtures have been hardwired to accommodate GU24 energy-efficient fluorescent bulbs. Which means you can have mid-century craftsmanship and 21st-century sustainability, all at the flip of a switch.
